In this collaborative piece, Noam Chomsky’s address to an invisible audience serves as a platform to think of the relationship between abstraction and contemporary modes of representation. The audio combines field recordings of the exhibition space, music, and spoken word to analyze and complicate the violence of the discourse surrounding black as a color and blackness as an antonym of light.

Adapting Kandinsky’s color theory and composition discussions in “Über das Geistige in der Kunst” (Concerning the Spiritual In Art), the Graphic Compositions employ Noam Chomsky’s address to an invisible audience as primary digital colors for shapes. In magenta, ciano, and yellow, the statement “I gather there are some people out behind that blackness there, but If I don’t look you in the eye is because I don’t see you… all I see is the blackness” forms a square, a circle, and a triangle.
