habanera – an interval, a cage, a spell
Following research on operatic structures and the performer’s engagement with limits imposed on characters in Western European opera, in practice: habanera presents an excerpt of exercises leading toward the composition of the EP and concert lecture-performance “Just Another Shadie Bitch” (Epilogue): Plenty of Nothing. The work explores voice as material, instrument, and relational practice within inherited musical forms.
